I met my younger self for coffee.
She stood at the entrance of the coffee house with a look of apprehension, her knuckles white and pale holding on to the handle of the door. I looked up from my table and gave her a reassuring look and she came over gingerly towards me.
She ordered a Latte confidently, all the trepidation and anxiety buried now deep inside her. I ordered a Cortado with Oat milk, which caused her to raise her eyebrows.
“Do we like Oat Milk? I don’t like change”, she spoke.
“We still are not very change friendly, but we are not change averse too. We try new things and decide for ourselves”, I replied.
“Is that why we chopped of the hair?” she asked, pointing at my short hair with one hand and holding on to her long-braided hair neatly in place.
“Yes. Do you like it?”, I asked her.
“Yeah, Kind of!”, she replied, a faint smile lighting her face.
“You should smile more”, I said .
“Okay!!” She knitted her eyebrows with annoyance.
“And did I make something of myself? Do I fit in this world?”, she asked.
“No, you don’t have to fit in, you are your own person. You follow your heart and write your own script for your life. You meet people from all over the world and connect with them”, I said.
“Me. Are you sure?”
“Yes, you meet and make friends on the internet and meet them in person.”
She looked even more hesitant.
“You travel to places you love, chasing sun rises and sun sets in various parts of the world. You visit the homes of your favourite authors and go on literary trails. And you meet authors and writers, have a tete-a-tete with them”.
“That does not sound and feel like us. That’s not me”, she replied. I could hear the defiance in her voice.
“Are we successful?”, she asked.
“You mean Are we Happy? Yes, we are happy !!!”, I replied.
She reached her hand across the table and I took her dainty, young hand in my wrinkled hands. I could see a tear roll down her cheek and I heard a faint “Thank you”.

Interesting concept. Yes, are we happy, the most important question

It took a while for me to get on to this trend. But found it really enormously enjoyable experience.
